Star’s 'Death Spiral' Produces Shock Waves Far From Black Hole | Animation

Debris from a tidal disruption event, named ASASSN-14li, collided with itself during the star's destruction. The collision created “shock waves that emit ultraviolet and optical light far from the black hole,” according to NASA.
