Solar Storm Illuminates Northern Lights Over Norway

The Sun's far reaching effects on Earth's upper atmosphere were put on display on January 22, 2011 and captured by Helge Mortensen of Norway. A January 19th solar flare and ensuing Earth-directed coronal mass ejection is behind this aurora borealis.
