Bush administration declares Alaska's Beluga whales endangered

The move is in opposition to Gov. Sarah Palin's stance on the animals' status. The National Marine Fisheries Service will extend federal protections to the 375 whales. The Bush Administration today declared a small, isolated population of Beluga whales in Alaska's Cook Inlet as endangered species, rejecting arguments from Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin that these small, white whales were on their way to recovery.
