Summer Melt Begins in Greenland

Bright blue melt ponds dot the surface of the Greenland Ice Sheet as the summer melt season gets underway. The meltwater absorbs the sun's rays to cause further melt and lubricates the ice sheet's glaciers as they flow out to sea.
