Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) can reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions compared to their gas-only counterparts. Researchers have taken the technology one step further, demonstrating how to improve the efficiency of current PHEVs by almost 12 percent.
