REM sleep behavior disorder is a risk factor for Parkinson's disease

Up to 45 percent of patients suffering REM sleep behavior disorders develop Parkinson's disease, new research suggests. This work suggests brain SPECT, a neuro-imaging technique, is an effective tool for viewing the disease progression at an early stage. This discovery will allow the study of future neuroprotective drugs in very early stages, even before first Parkinson's disease symptoms appear.
