Women entering the workforce expect less than men, Canadian study finds

Women have lower career expectations than men, anticipating smaller paychecks and longer waits for promotions, according to a new study. When comparing expectations of university females and males, the women predicted their starting salaries to be 14 per cent less and to wait close to two months longer for a promotion compared to what men forecast. Researchers suspect these lower expectations may be perpetuating gender inequalities in the workforce with women taking lower-paying jobs and being less aggressive in salary negotiations.
