BT-R3 mediates killing of the malaria vector Anopheles gambiae by Bacillus thuringiensis

Monday, August 26, 2013 - 09:30 in Biology & Nature

The cadherin receptor, BT-R3, of Anopheles gambiae reported in a new study mediates the killing action of the Cry4B mosquitocidal toxin. Characterization of the toxin-receptor complex will facilitate protein design for creation of new customized mosquitocidal proteins and peptide mimics that might be more effective than the natural toxins themselves and less able to bring about insect host resistance.
