Sudden death of a parent may pose mental health risks for children

In the first longitudinal study of its kind, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine have found that 40 percent of children bereaved by sudden parental death will require intervention to prevent prolonged grief reaction and possible depression. The results will be published in the September issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
