BP starts crucial pressure test on gushing oil well

High-pressure readings for 48 hours could indicate that the well is sound enough to remain capped – and that crude may finally stop spewing into the Gulf of Mexico. BP engineers began a crucial test of their leaking Gulf of Mexico oil well Wednesday evening in an effort to determine whether the pipes were structurally sound enough to allow them to seal off the gushing crude.
