How do bats avoid colliding with objects while flying? Scientists, using tiny microphones on bats' heads, found that bats tweak the frequencies of the sounds they emit to detect and maneuver around obstacles. The scientists also found that bats make mental templates of each sound (or broadcast) and the echo it creates, to differentiate one broadcast/echo set from another.
