Distance matters. When a pond vanishes, the creatures who live there must find new homes. How far frogs, salamanders and ducks must travel to find other wetlands determines their fate. Through a $2.1 million National Science Foundation Grant, researchers from five universities will evaluate the impact that changes in climate and land use have had on the connectivity of wetland in the Great Plains. The unique macrosystems study, led by research assistant professor Chris Wright of the Geospatial Sciences Center of Excellence at South Dakota State University, includes researchers from Texas Tech University, Ohio State University, the University of Minnesota-Duluth and Kansas State University.
