Along the way, some teachers and others judged her works to be too exotic. But at the Grammys this month, Gabriela Ortiz’s “Revolución Diamantina,” inspired by Mexico’s 2019 eponymous “Glitter Revolution” feminist protest targeting gender violence, took home three awards, including one for performance for conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and one for Ortiz herself for composition.
