Harvard Foundation sends 1,000 blankets to Japan
The Harvard Foundation recently sent more than 1,000 new wool blankets and other relief items to the victims of the catastrophic March earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Foundation Director S. Allen Counter, a professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, arranged for the blankets to be shipped from the United States to Tokyo, where a Japanese carrier transported the relief items to the areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Ibaraki prefecture. The initiative was supported by a grant from the Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Family Foundation, on behalf of their children, Trey, Jaden, and Willow “to enable the students and faculty of the Harvard Foundation to purchase needed relief items for families who were victims of the tragic earthquake and tsunami in Japan.”
