California’s extreme drought hits crops, livestock

The U.S. Drought Monitor classifies more than 95 per cent of California as being in an extreme drought as of April 15, 2014. Half of the fruits, nuts and vegetables produced in the U.S. are grown in the state, where water for irrigation is in short supply.
