U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, led a ceremony at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II on September 2, 2020. Also known as Victory Over Japan, or V-J, Day, it was the date in 1945 that Japan signed an unconditional surrender aboard the U.S. battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
