Due to pain in the butt things like finishing my PhD, moving across the Atlantic, and filling out the paperwork necessary to satisfy several British bureaucracies, I have not had time to implement my probabilistic bracket prediction algorithm in time for this year's NCAA basketball tournament. Instead, I'm going to take the easy way out and repost my Math Madness article from last year on the optimal way to play basketball. The numbers are a year old, but the take home lessons are the same, with the possible exception that dunks/lay-ups are even more advantageous now that the NCAA has adopted the "no charge" zone under the basket from the NBA.
