Engineers discover graphene's weakness

Tuesday, November 30, 2010 - 18:30 in Physics & Chemistry

Using quantum theory and supercomputers, scientists have revealed the mechanisms of mechanical failure of pure graphene under tensile stress. They shows that, when graphene is subject to strain equal in all directions, it morphs into a new structure which is mechanically unstable.
