Letter to the MIT community regarding the death of Matthew Nehring

The following email was sent today to the MIT community by President L. Rafael Reif. To the members of the MIT community, I write with the terrible news that freshman Matthew L. Nehring, a native of Colorado and a member of our East Campus community, died overnight. It appears that he took his own life. In this moment of tragedy, we extend heartfelt sympathies to Matthew's family and friends. I would also like us to take time to focus on one another as a community. There is no greater source of support than the sympathy and kindness of the people we know best. In that spirit, Tuesday evening, March 3, at 6 p.m., we will hold a community gathering in the Memorial Lobby of Building 10.
