Herbert Hauptman's research on determining molecular structures using X-ray crystallography became indispensable to modern chemistry and the pharmaceutical industry.Herbert Hauptman, who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1985 for work uncovering the structure of molecules that accelerated medical research and led to the development of new drugs, has died. He was 94.
