This short, scenic Mojave train tour was a long time coming

It took five years and $50,000 to get a single L.A.-Barstow-Kelso Depot tour rolling. Organizers hope it inspired someone to bankroll a regular tourist rail service to rival the Grand Canyon's.With a horn blast and a whoosh of air brakes, a special train carrying 254 rail fans, civic leaders and adventure seekers rolled out of Barstow on Sunday morning with a goal of reviving interest in passenger rail service across the Mojave Desert.
