Dr. Jay Katz, influential expert on medical law and ethics, dies at 86

Longtime Yale professor served on the panel that led to the end of the Tuskegee experiments. His advocacy helped shape the practice of informed consent for patients involved in medical research. Dr. Jay Katz, a psychoanalyst and Yale Law School professor whose analysis of the conflicting interests and motivations of doctors and patients made him a leading authority on medical ethics, died of heart failure Monday in New Haven, Conn. He was 86.
