Comets 252P/LINEAR and 2016 BA14 safely flew by Earth on March 21-22, 2016. 252P/LINEAR ranks 5th on closest cometary body fly-by, since such records have been kept (3.5 million miles). 2016 BA14, a suspected fragment of 252P/LINEAR, ranks 2nd.
