Hysterectomy is associated with increased levels of iron in the brain

Science knows that men have more iron in their bodies and brains then do women. A new study confirms the reason for this gender difference: during menstruation, iron is eliminated through loss of blood. Further, since excess iron can be toxic to the brain, the study suggests strategies to reduce excess iron levels in both genders.
