Despite commitments to cut CO2 emissions and limit global warming between 1.5-2 °C under the Paris Agreement, fossil fuel emissions show little sign of abating. According to new estimates from a group of scientists in 2019, global emissions will grow 0.6 percent year-on-year and reach 36.8 billion t of CO2, or 36.8 Gt carbon. "Fossil CO2 emissions will likely be more than 4percent higher in 2019 than the year of the Paris Agreement in 2015," as stated in the "Global Carbon Budget 2019." "Global fossil CO2 emissions have risen steadily over the last decades & show no sign of peaking."
