Bio-inspired biomimetics can outperform natural coenzymes

Monday, February 1, 2016 - 09:03 in Physics & Chemistry

Researchers from the University of Amsterdam's Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) have developed a range of synthetic biomimetic compounds to replace the relatively expensive natural NADH and NADPH coenzymes in enzymatic conversions of industrial relevance. They show that some of the compounds even outperform their natural counterparts. The research has been published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS).
