Ant diversity marks grassland restoration progress

The more diverse the ant population, the closer a restored section of grassland is to its original state, according to Laura Winkler. The South Dakota State University graduate completed her master's degree in plant science, specializing in entomology, last semester. She studied ants as indicators of progress in restoring grasslands.
