Diversity of Life at Tropics Related to Heat, Not Sunlight

The diversity of species increases from the poles to the tropics, but until now bacteria were thought to be an exception. A study in PNAS shows that bacteria follow the same pattern and provides new insight in a long debate about the relative importance of temperature and sunlight in driving biodiversity.
