The current rapid decline in biodiversity caused by human mediated global change calls for the implementation of effective measurements worldwide. On a European level the Natura 2000 network provides an important conservation tool through maintaining the biological diversity, while still taking into account economic and cultural factors. A new study, published in the open access journal Nature Conservation, provides an analysis and evaluation of Natura 2000, setting objectives and recommendations for the future.
