Japan Launches X-Ray Observatory to Study Black Holes, Star Explosions

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's (JAXA) Astro-H X-ray observatory launched to orbit today (Feb. 17) at 3:45 a.m. EST (0845 GMT; 5:45 p.m. local time in Japan) atop an H-IIA rocket from the Tanegashima Space Center.
