The Downfall Of Scientific American
Although my wife is also a chemistry major, over the years she has not shared my enthusiasm for Scientific American. My 40 year collection of the magazine is to her little more than extra insulation for the basement. In college days I was always impressed by the fact that most of their articles were written by renowned researchers. Equally important from a lay person’s point of view was that the writing was stripped of unnecessary jargon and accompanied by well-designed, colourful diagrams. Routinely, background information was included for those not grounded in the basics, and often, for those with more than idle curiosity, there was also an attempt to include a brief description of the experimental techniques used in their research. read more
