NASA Conducts 1st Test Fire of Shuttle-Era Engine for New Rocket

For the first time in more than three years, a space shuttle main engine has roared to life in support of NASA's next-generation heavy-lift rocket. The SSME, renamed the RS-25, fired Jan. 9 at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.
