Where To Search On Mars For Droplets, & Shallow Flows Of Liquid Water - Where Microbial Life May Flourish

Thursday, August 28, 2014 - 09:20 in Astronomy & Space

Where should we go, on Mars, to look for present day liquid water? Researchers have come up with many proposals here, in the last few years, and from time to time, these hit the news (as with the recent "swimming pools for bacteria"). However, I don't know of a non academic overview of all the ideas.Let's start with the Flow Like Features associated with the dark dune spots in the southern polar region. These are less well known than some of the other candidates but rather interesting, as the best explanation involves melt water at 0°C, warm for liquid water on Mars, also (at its source) pure fresh water, unusually for Mars. read more
