Sam’s life with progeria, a genetic disorder resulting in rapid premature aging, was the subject of a documentary film shortlisted for an Academy Award. Sam was a riot of enthusiasms: for math and science, comic books, scouting (he was an Eagle Scout), playing the drums and Boston-area sports teams.
