Construction of Giant Telescope in Hawaii Begins Amid Protests

The building phase of the $1.4 billion Thirty Meter Telescope kicked off today with a groundbreaking/dedication ceremony near the top of Hawaii's Mauna Kea. If all goes according to plan, TMT should begin observing the heavens in 2022.
