A bird's-eye view of the protein universe: First global picture of the evolutionary origins of proteins

Forming a global picture of the protein universe is crucial to addressing these and other important questions. Now, new research is providing a first step toward piecing together a global picture of the protein universe that may answer these questions and suggest strategies for the design of new proteins.
