University pond reveals hidden history of fungi

A study of DNA in a campus pond at the University of Exeter has led to the discovery of a whole new type of fungi. Named Cryptomycota by the researchers, the discovery redefines understanding of fungi and gives an insight into a hitherto undiscovered diversity.
