Treating heart attack patients with regenerative stem cells obtained from their own fat deposits may be feasible and safe, according to a small, first-of-its-kind study. Heart muscle damage in stem cell-treated patients decreased more than half after six months; placebo-treated patients showed no change. Stem cell recipients had a greater increase in heart function, but the difference was not considered significant.
