Its team maintain that this is "the first high-end laptop in the world that ships without mystery software in the kernel, operating system, or any software applications." The laptop carries appeal for those who are frustrated over paying for a machine with an OS carrying "suspect proprietary software," without the user knowing what that software does. The company says the value of going free/libre and open source is for an important reason: "unless every aspect of your kernel, operating system, and software applications are free/libre and open source, there is no way to know that your computer is truly working in your best interest."
