The Mystery Islands of Great Salt Lake

In recent years, strange reed-covered mounds have sprung up on the drying playa of Utah's Great Salt Lake, revealing spots where freshwater has been pushed under pressure to the surface. University of Utah scientists are discovering that these groundwater deposits could be thousands of feet deep, originating as ancient runoff from nearby mountains.
