Photos: Dams Threaten Mekong River Megafishes

A meeting last week could determine whether construction of the first of 11 controversial dams—the Xayaburi in Loas—on the Mekong River can proceed. The dams are designed to generate electricity, but environmentalists fear they will disrupt the Mekong's delicate freshwater ecology and habitat for the region’s endangered megafishes.
