Study finds white abalone on the brink of extinction

The shellfish was abundant till overfishing in the 1970s caused the population to plummet. Researchers say the only way to save it is through human intervention.White abalone, the endangered shellfish that once numbered in the millions off the Southern California coast, have declined precipitously over the last decade and are on the brink of extinction, a study has found.
