A determined ex-smoker wants kids to shun cigarettes

Debi Austin's 1997 TV commercial, in which she smoked through the laryngectomy hole in her throat, was just the beginning of her mission.In 1992, Debi Austin had a laryngectomy after she was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx. Austin had smoked her first cigarette at 13 and, even after surgery, remained a two- to three-pack-a-day smoker.
