Anti-smoking laws reduce heart attacks, report finds

Smokers and nonsmokers alike benefit from public and workplace bans, according to the study, which is likely to boost efforts to pass more such ordinances. Bans on smoking in public places and workplaces can sharply reduce heart attacks among both smokers and nonsmokers, according to a report issued Thursday by the Institute of Medicine.
