Leader of Harvard working group discusses import on focusing on symbols and spaces

Harvard President Drew Faust established the Presidential Task Force on Inclusion and Belonging in 2016. In her charge to the new group, Faust said, “To realize the community’s full promise and to foster the personal and intellectual transformation at the heart of our mission, we must also work affirmatively and collectively to advance a culture of belonging.” The task force was formed to foster a sense of belonging for all members of Harvard’s diverse community. Last May, the group issued a final report that included eight recommendations, one of which was to make the University’s values statement and its public art more inclusive. Based on the report’s findings, Harvard today announced creation of the Working Group on Symbols and Spaces of Engagement at Harvard College.
