Almanac: Teflon's accidental discovery

Roy Plunkett was born, the accidental inventor of a the remarkable non-stick substance we have come to know as Teflon, was born 106 years ago today. Plunkett was a DuPont chemist working with gases in the late 1930's when an experiment unexpectedly produced a mysterious white powder that evolved into multiple domestic and military applications.
